As we return to Disney World after the closure, there are some “new normals” that we need to get used to for the immediate future. Wearing face masks in the parks is the most noticeable difference, or as Disney refers to them – face coverings. Disney is very strict with this rule, so having a guide to face masks at Disney is very important pre-vacation information.
Face coverings are required everywhere on property for all Guests (2 years and up) and Cast Members. The only times you are allowed to remove your face covering is when you are dining, swimming or in your own hotel room. Disney also has some relaxation stations throughout the parks that give you the opportunity to remove your face covering as well (more on that below).
Your face covering may be disposable or reusable, but must adhere to the following rules:
- Be made with at least 2 layers of breathable material
- Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
- Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
- Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the Guest to remain hands-free
Here are a few tips to help you get ready for your next trip:
Make Sure Your Face Covering Is Comfortable
You usually spend hours in the parks per day, so it is VERY important that whatever face covering you select, is comfortable for you. Face coverings come in a lot of different shapes and materials, so pack a bunch that you find are the best fit for you and your family members.
Certain Face Coverings Are Not Allowed
Make sure you are aware of what types of face coverings are acceptable at the parks. Disney does not allow neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas, face coverings that contain valves, or mesh material face coverings. Also, Disney does specify that it needs to be a 2 layer material face covering. Follow these guidelines, and you will have no issues with admission to the parks.
Breathable Material
Test out different face coverings at home and select the one that has the most breathable material for you. For each person of your family, they may prefer a different type. Make sure everyone has face coverings that suit their needs and comfort level. I personally find that the disposable medical face coverings are the best for comfort, but not everyone may agree with that.
Practice At Home
Have all family members practice wearing their face coverings at home for long lengths of time so that everyone can get used to them. Whether it be while you are out and about, or perhaps visiting with family and friends. It will be good practice so that everyone gets used to wearing them for longer periods of time. By the time your trip comes around, you will already be used to it.
Take Breaks at the Relaxation Stations
Every park has multiple relaxation stations. Some are indoors, and some are outside, but with shade and/or cooling areas. At these stations, you may remove your face covering while seated at a table. Make sure to schedule these pit stops in to your day, it’s a nice opportunity to take a breather from your face covering. All of the relaxation stations can be located in the My Disney Experience app or in the park maps that you pick up at the entrance of the parks.
Book a Table-Service Restaurant Meal
Book a table-service meal during your park day, and that gives you additional time to have a break from your face covering. You can remove it while seated at your table, so it becomes another chance to take a breather. Since table-service meals are usually longer than a quick-service, it gives you a much longer time period to enjoy being without a face covering.
Now that you are all set with all the information you need to know about face coverings, why not make sure you are rocking some Disney inspired fashion? There are tons of Disney themed face coverings out there, and here are a few places where you can order some before your trip:
