UPDATED: OCTOBER 19TH, 2020
Hollywood Studios is the smallest park in square footage compared to the 3 other parks. As a result, a lot of visitors tend to skip it or only consider it a half day park. With the recent additions of Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge, there are a lot of MUST SEE attractions at Hollywood Studios. If you are planning to spend some time at Hollywood Studios, then here are the top 8 things you will not want to miss:
8. The New Character Cavalcades
Disney has come up with a great idea for guests to see characters. They call them character cavalcades. They are unscheduled parades that the characters make through the park every day so you can still get a glimpse and some great photos from a safe distance. At Hollywood Studios, you will find a good variety of characters, and some Pixar Pals that you won’t find at any other park!
Here are the character cavalcades that you can find at Hollywood Studios:
Mickey & Friends Motorcade
- Mickey
- Minnie
- Chip
- Dale
- Pluto
Disney Junior Stars Motorcade
- Vampirina,
- Doc McStuffins
- Fancy Nancy
Pixar Pals Motorcade
- Buzz Lightyear
- Woody
- Jessie
- Mr. & Mrs. Incredible
- Edna Mode
- Sulley
- Green Army Men
7. A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
Frozen took the world by storm and quickly became a family favourite. The soundtrack is very popular and if you enjoy the music from the movie, then don’t miss your chance to see it on stage. Narrators re-tell the story of Frozen and then you get the chance to sing along with the soundtrack from the movie. It even “snows” in the theatre, a lot of fun for little kids and parents too!
6. The Thrill Rides
Have you got the need for speed? A bit of an adrenaline junkie? Then Rock n’ Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror should be at the top of your list of to-dos. They are right next to each of in the park, so it is easy to hit them up one after the other. Tower of Terror will take you on a spooky adventure and you will experience a series of drops in a “broken” elevator. Rock n’ Roller Coaster rocket launches you on a fast speed ride where you go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. The ride blasts Aerosmith music while you enjoy a fast paced ride and 3 inversions.
5. Slinky Dog Dash
Slinky Dog Dash is a fairly new ride that came to Hollywood Studios with the opening of Toy Story Land. It quickly became a favourite among guests and often has some of the longest lines in the park. It is a family friendly coaster that appeals to all ages. It does give you some thrill, but it isn’t over the top, so most can handle the level of thrill it delivers.
If you would like to try and get through the ride with the shortest wait, then it is best to either try to ride it first thing at park opening, or in the last hour before park closing. Those are the times of day where you will have the best luck for a short wait.
4. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
This is a brand new ride that opened up in March 2020. It replaced the fan favourite – The Great Movie Ride. It will take you right into a Mickey Mouse cartoon short where you will get to embark on an adventure with Mickey and friends. This is the perfect ride for the entire family, so all ages can enjoy!
3. Toy Story Mania
This has been one of the most popular rides in the park for many years, even before Toy Story Land. It takes you through a series of 3D screens where you shoot at items for points. The challenge is to get the highest number of points and you compete with everyone in your car. It’s always fun to see who got the highest score at the end of the ride.
2. Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
Have you ever dreamed of piloting the Millennium Falcon? Well, now you can make that dream come true! Smuggler’s Run will give you and 5 other friends the opportunity to enter the cockpit and take flight in the Millennium Falcon. You will each have a designated role – 2 pilots, 2 gunners, and 2 engineers. It’s a lot of fun, and lots of thrill packed in to that ride.
1. Rise of the Resistance
This is by far the most popular and amazing ride that Disney has ever imagined! Since the first day it launched in December 2019, it has been the main attraction that drives people to the park.
This ride runs off of a virtual queue, so it is important to know how it works before you get to the park. That will help your chances of being able to ride it. You will have to have the My Disney Experience app installed on your phone. Through the app, you will have to request a boarding time at the exact times they open them up in the day. At the moment, they release them at 10am and 2pm. For most details on that process, check out How to Join a Boarding Group For Rise of the Resistance.
