Everything You Need To Know About Disney MagicBands

Disney MagicBands have been around since 2013, but they still feel like new technology to a lot of guests. Most people think of them as their park ticket, but they have A LOT of different functions that you may not even be aware of. Below you will learn everything you need to know about Disney MagicBands!

 

Let’s start with everything you can do with your MagicBand:

 

Open Your Hotel Room Door

When you stay at a Disney resort, your MagicBand is your hotel room key. No need to keep track of a card and who has one. Everyone that is booked in a room will have a MagicBand that is linked to open that room. You just tap your band on the sensor on the door, and voila, it unlocks!

 

Park Ticket

One of the most common known uses is that the MagicBand serves as your park ticket to enter the parks. It makes it very easy and quick to enter since you are wearing it on your wrist and you don’t have to pull out extra cards. Again, you just tap your band to the sensor to activate it. Sometimes you may also have to scan your fingerprint since each MagicBand can only be used with the person it is linked to. 

 

 

Fastpasses

When you would like to use a Fastpass for a ride, your MagicBand is how you can redeem it. Since your MagicBand is linked to your My Disney Experience account, your Fastpass reservations are linked on your band. Just walk up to the Fastpass line and scan your MagicBand on the sensor. The sensor will turn green to let you know that you can be admitted to the Fastpass line.

 

Redeem Your Dining Plan Credits

Once the dining plan returns at Disney World, your MagicBand is how you will redeem your credits. When you purchase a meal or snack, you just scan your MagicBand and enter your 4 digit pin to redeem your credit. Based on what you purchase, it will use the appropriate type of credit (snack, quick-service, or table-service). Please note that tips for table-service are not included with your dining credits, so you will want to plan for that expense as well.

 

Charge to Your Hotel Room

If you are a Disney hotel guest, then you can use your MagicBand to charge to your room. Whether it be for meals, merchandise, or any other type of purchase, you can charge it to your room. You will have to provide a credit card during check-in to link to your room in order to be able to charge to it. Once that is done, you can use your MagicBand anytime for purchases. You will just have to scan your band and enter your 4 digit pin.

 

Photopass Photos

If you take any photos in the parks with a Disney Photopass Photographer, then you can use your MagicBand to scan and have the photos loaded into your My Disney Experience account. This is especially important if you have purchased Memory Maker or if you are an annual passholder. When they scan your band, any photos taken with them will go directly into your account so that you can download them afterwards.

 

Ride Photos

This one is especially important for MagicBands because it is the only way to retrieve these types of photos. When you are wearing a MagicBand on a ride, the system picks you up and then adds those ride photos to your My Disney Experience account. Wearing a MagicBand is the only way to get these photos. If you want your ride photos, then it is imperative that you make sure you have a MagicBand.

 

 

Now that we know everything we can use our MagicBands for, let’s now take a look at some extra information you may want to know about MagicBands:

 

They Are Waterproof

No need to worry about wearing them on water rides or going swimming with them. They are completely waterproof, so get them wet, and it won’t affect them at all!

 

Can Be Used More Than Once

If you have a MagicBand from a previous trip and don’t want to have to pay for another set, no worries! MagicBands stay active for about 2-3 years, so you can use them on multiple trips. Just take a look at your MagicBand in your My Disney Experience account to see that it is still listed as Active. If it is, then you are good to use it again!

 

You Can Adjust The Size

Did you know that you can adjust the size of the band to fit young children? To accommodate smaller wrists, the MagicBand actually has two pieces to it. There is the coloured part and then a dark grey part. You can actually pull off the grey portion of the band to make it smaller for young kids. They Have Special Designs

The ones you get at Disney resorts with your stay comes in a variety of solid colours. Disney does have some special designed MagicBands that you can purchase if you would like to jazz up your band. You can purchase them through your My Disney Experience app before your stay, or you can wait until you arrive and purchase them on site. Most gift shops carry MagicBands, and you will find the widest selection if you wait to buy them at Disney. They range in price and you can get some in the $20 range, and even more than $50 for a limited edition band.
