Are you stressing about choosing your Fastpasses? Worried that you won’t get the ones you want? This is a very common feeling among people planning a Disney World vacation. Vacation shouldn’t be stressful though, so I am here to give you some guidance and Disney Fastpass tips. Following my Fastpass tips will give you the best chance at getting the ones you want. Before selecting your Fastpasses, you may want to take a look at my Navigating the Fastpass+ System at Disney World blog post, which will give you some suggestions on which rides to use Fastpasses for.
Fastpass Ride Tiers
Before explaining anything else, you will need to be aware of the ride Tier system. In all parks (except Magic Kingdom), rides are categorized as either Tier 1 or Tier 2. That means you will have some restrictions in which Fastpasses you can select for the day. You have 3 Fastpasses that you can select per day. Of those 3, only one of them can be from a Tier 1 ride, your remaining two will have to be from Tier 2 rides.
Here is an infographic that details what rides belong to which Tiers:
Stay at a Disney Hotel
When you stay at a Disney hotel, you get certain extra perks. One of those perks is that you get access to make your Fastpasses 60 days before your check-in date. You’ll also be able to make your Fastpasses for every day of your stay once you hit the 60 days before your check-in date. This is a HUGE advantage for the really difficult Fastpasses. If you want any chance at getting the most popular ones, booking them 60 days out is your best bet.
There are also a few Disney Springs area hotels that will give you access to book Fastpasses 60 days out. These hotels are:
- Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista
- Hilton Buena Vista Palace
- DoubleTree Suites by Hilton
- B Resort & Spa
- Best Western Lake Buena Vista Resort
- Holiday Inn Orlando
- Wyndham Lake Buena Vista
- Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista
Be Prepared with a Schedule as Soon as Your 60 Day Window Opens
Before your Fastpass window even arrives, make sure you have your schedule set and know which Fastpasses you want to choose. That will require you to know which parks you are going to on which days. If you need some help in this area, make sure to check out How To Use a Disney World Crowd Calendar to Plan Your Park Days.
You can also sign up to my email list for access to my free printables. Included are some worksheets to plan out your days and organize your Fastpass selections. Having this information ready and written out will help you once you are ready to log in and start.
Book High Demand Fastpasses First
The order in which you will select your Fastpasses plays a big role in what will be available. The most popular ones (ie. Flights Of Passage) are gone very fast, so there is some strategy behind increasing your chances of getting them.
When you put your schedule together, select your park day for your most popular Fastpass at the end of your week. The later in the week you are selecting, the more Fastpasses that will be available. The reason behind this is because anyone that booked their Fastpasses a few days before you will have already started to select for those days since you can choose your Fastpasses for your entire trip. So for example, if you want to get a Fastpass for Flights of Passage, I would recommend going to Animal Kingdom on the last day of your trip.
On the date that your 60 day window opens, Fastpass selection opens up at 7 AM Eastern Time. Get logged in to your My Disney Experience account before 7 AM and be ready to start selecting AS SOON as the clock strikes 7.
You may think that starting on your first day is the best method, but it will not work for those difficult to get Fastpasses. Go for the popular ones FIRST. If you are trying to get Flights of Passage on the last day of your trip, then select to choose your Fastpasses for that date first. Go in order of the most popular Fastpasses and once those are selected, you can go back and select the rest of them for your trip. Here are some of the ones that you may want to try and select first before any other Fastpass:
- Flights of Passage
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Millenium Falcon
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
Anytime a new Land opens, you can pretty much guarantee that their attractions will be very popular.
Book Them Early in the Day
If you plan to start your days early in the park, then it is best to try and book your Fastpasses as early as possible. Try and get your first Fastpass as closest to park opening time as possible and then each following soon after. When you do that, you will use up those Fastpasses early in the day, which means you will have more opportunity to select 4th, 5th, 6th Fastpasses.
Once you pass through the Fastpass line of your third Fastpass ride, you can then get on the app and book your 4th selection. As an example, imagine these were your Fastpass selection times for the day:
- 9 AM – 10 AM
- 10:10 AM – 11:10 AM
- 11:15 AM – 12:15 PM
With the schedule above, you could tap in to your 3rd Fastpass at 11:15 AM, and then select your 4th Fastpass while in line. Just make sure you have the My Disney Experience mobile app installed on your phone so that you will have access to do that.
Attend a DVC Presentation
DVC stands for Disney Vacation Club. It is Disney’s timeshare program that allows you to purchase points so that you could repeat vacation at Disney’s resorts. While walking through the parks, you will most likely come across several booths where Cast Members can answer questions for you about how DVC works. You can also request to attend a presentation. In a presentation, Disney will come pick you up wherever you are on property and bring you to one of their Deluxe resorts so that they can tell you how it works and give you a tour of the property. It gives you the opportunity to take a look ar a resort you may not have previously visited and you will get to see what the rooms look like.
When you attend one of these presentations, oftentimes they will provide you with a thank you “gift”. Sometimes it can be a Disney Gift Card, other times it can be extra Fastpasses for you to use on any ride. Before you sign up, make sure you clarify with the Cast Member what you will get in return for attending the presentation. Once the presentation is over, they will drive you back to where you want to go, so they make it very convenient so that you do not lose too much time.
